An overwhelming burst of energy ripped through the Jungle Nightclub, Negril this morning as the fast rising Konshens and the ‘Energy God’ himself, Elephant Man, turned the place upside down.

Konshens was in a no nonsense mood. He came onstage after an extended wait that saw Black Chiney unleashing some hard hitting songs. Their stint behind the turntables was well appreciated as they dropped some dub plates that awoken the sometimes sleepily crowd that has been partying all day long.

The momentum climbed suddenly after girl group MBC left the stage and Konshens was introduced. He came onstage singing the hit single Winner, before warming the crowd with his fairly young but effective music catalogue. For the song Clap It he asked for three females onstage, however it was not forthcoming as they though his ‘young artiste $10,000 reward’ was not enough. Konshens also did Rasta Imposter, Dance Down, Woman Ago Kill Mi, and capped off his high energy performance with a song for his mother that was well received by the audience.

What do you think about Yendi Phillips hosting Rising Stars?

August 11, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

yendi_phillips_miss_jamaica_world2007.jpgYendi Phillips won the Miss Jamaica World 2007 title and was placed in the top 15 at the Miss World finals. Earlier this year she was given the chance to become the next Digicel Rising Stars host taking over from long-time host Denise Hunt. Other persons who were vying for the spot are TV personalities Renée Garel (Lady Renée ), Miss Jamaica 2006 winner, Sara Lawrence, and contestant Sanique Vacianna.

Ramona Hudson, Age: 25
I am going to give you my honest opinion Yendi Phillips is god damn boring as hell, she needs to be her self and stop trying to be what she can’t and that is Denise Hunt. I don’t know why Denise is no longer the host but they need to get her back on board.

Arlondo Becket, Age: 29
I love Yendi Phillips but I don’t think she’s doing a good job as the Rising Stars host, I am not a professional in tv land but I can definitely identify that she’s a weak host. Maybe they decided to used her because of her beauty but to be the Rising Stars host you have to be ghetto when it’s time to be ghetto especially when they are doing to search for talents on the road.

DJ Craig, Age: 21
I am not going to put all the blame on poor little Yendi because both she and the competition boring. The competition lacks talent from both the contestants and Yendi Phillips. The best Rising Stars season was when Christopher Martin won and I don’t think it’s going to get no better than that for now.

Rihanna and Chris Brown Engaged?

August 11, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

rihanna-and-chris-brown-hugging-dating.jpgRihanna has sparked rumors she is engaged to R&B singer Chris Brown after she was photographed wearing a diamond ring on her wedding finger.

The beauty has been romantically linked to Brown for months, but both singers have continually denied they are a couple, despite being snapped in public kissing and cuddling.

The pair stepped up speculation about their relationship last week when they were snapped frolicking in a hot tub together in Los Angeles.

And now Rihanna has fueled rumors that they are to walk down the aisle after she was snapped sporting a ring on her left hand.

Reggae star Sean Paul pays surprise visit to youth summer basketball camp

August 11, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

sean-paul-1.jpgMONTREAL - At first, Tiffany Lussier brushed it off when she heard rumours reggae mega-star Sean Paul would make a surprise visit to her summer basketball camp.

The 11-year-old broke out in tears of joy Wednesday when Paul showed up and she was asked to sing with the Grammy Award-winning artist in front of her fellow campers.

“When the people said he would come, I thought it wasn’t true and they were just joking. . . I never thought in my life that I would see him,” Lussier said.

Paul dropped by to offer advice about life to several hundred campers who listened intently while sitting on the huge gymnasium floor at Montreal’s Dawson College.

“There are ups and downs in life, just like waves in the sea,” he said.

“When you’re up on top you’re feeling good, but that’s not the only feeling you need to get used to in your heart, in your brain, in your soul.”

The 35-year-old Jamaican, who won a Grammy in 2004 for his reggae album Dutty Rock, told the youngsters that being down is sometimes a part of life.

“Learn how to swim. . . so you can reach back up to the top,” he said.

As he left to prepare for a concert, Paul told reporters he loves to talk to kids.

“There are so many negative things, so where I can, I encourage good stuff like summer camp,” he said.

“Kids learning how to control their bodies and control their minds is good stuff.”

The summer camp teaches children, aged six to 18 years, the fundamentals of basketball.

It also teaches life skills to marginalized young people from different social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

The basketball “academy” was created in 1992 by Trevor Williams, a former basketball player on the Canadian Olympic team.

terry_linen_jamaica.jpgTerry Linen’s soothing voice continues to thrill and comfort the heart of hundreds in the United States. The crooner’s stop in Atlanta was overwhelmingly successful and the response from the fans has been awesome.

Linen’s hectic schedule will see him stopping in New York before heading to Boston. He has also conducted several interview sessions, including one with DJ Squeeze, DJ Bobby and Pat McKay. Terry Linen also has several autograph signing sessions, as his fans just cannot seem to get enough. His autograph signing session at Moodies Record Shop in Queens New York, ‘sell off’, if we were to employ a Jamaican term.

The tour is not simply work for Terry as he loves every bit of his meet and greet fans moments. Despite this astronomical amount of work, Terry Linen still finds time to pop into the studio for voicing sessions and to ‘cut dub-plates.’

The Uplifting Music International artiste, whose voice has been compared to that of Reggae great Garnett Silk, will be back in the island on Monday, August 11. Terry will return to New York on August 31 for Irie Jamboree.
