wilkinsonengaged_hef_Kendra.jpgIt looks like things are over for “The Girls Next Door” as we know it. Kendra Wilkinson seems to have found another man. According E! News, Wilkinson is engaged to Philadephia Eagles player Hank Baskett.

Evidently, Hank proposed to Kendra atop Seattle’s Space Needle on Nov. 1 as both of their families looked on, a source told E! News.

“He’s a fine piece of ass,” Wilkinson said about Baskett. “He’s hot.”

Holly Madison confirmed her split from Hugh Hefner, and now it that Kendra is engaged it looks like she will be packing up and moving out of the Playboy mansion soon.

Beyonce as Wonder Woman?

wonderbeyonce_woman_movie_photos.jpgSo Beyoncé wants to play Wonder Woman? Surprisingly, my first impulse was not to gnash my teeth over what a terrible idea this is, though I imagine lots of fanboys might have that reaction. But really, B has been training for ages to step into Lynda Carter’s boots and play the DC superheroine on screen.

She already has played a scantily-clad action heroine; she’s long been an Amazon princess, and she already has a secret identity. Plus, Warner Bros. has been trying in vain for ages to make a Wonder Woman movie or at least a Justice League movie featuring Wonder Woman; maybe it’ll take a star with Beyoncé’s name recognition to get the movie greenlit.

Lasso of truth time: Who thinks Beyoncé can make this invisible plane fly? And who would rather deflect bullets with their wrists than watch a Wonder Woman movie starring Beyoncé?

Quick Draw: Addictive Online Pictionary Heads To The iPhone

November 11, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

It seems that the tide of the App Store is finally starting to shift, as more developers look to tap into the iPhone’s online connectivity in an effort to separate their apps from competitors’. The latest app preparing to join the fray is Quick Draw, a Pictionary-like game that allows iPhone users to play eachother online using the phone’s WiFi or cellular networks. The app is similar to iSketch and XSketch (covered here), throwing a handful of players into a room and choosing one of them as the ‘drawer’ while the rest frantically try to guess a keyword. And if Quick Draw is half as addicting as those sites, it likely has a hit on its hands. The app is currently in beta testing, with plans to appear on the App Store within the next two weeks.

The Jellyfish Guys Are At It Again, Raise $4.3 Million For Online Retail Service Alice.com

November 11, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

As serial a serial entrepreneur can get: Brian Wiegand and Mark McGuire, who managed to sell three companies in the past +10 years, most recently flipping social shopping service Jellyfish to Microsoft (which it later used to create Live Search Cashback), have raised $4.3 million for their new startup, Alice.com.

The round was led jointly by private equity angel funds Kegonsa Capital Partners and DaneVest Tech Fund.

The founders remain quite vague about what the stealth startup will offer exactly, but here’s what we do know: Alice.com will be an open, online retail platform for consumer packaged goods, focused primarily on linking manufacturers of essential household stuff like tooth brushes, toilet paper, trash bags etc. to end consumers directly.

MadeIT Can’t Make It In Invites, Switches To Online Ticketing

November 11, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

MadeIT, a San Francisco-based startup we profiled over a year ago, is leaving the crowded space of event planning and invitation applications and entering the equally-crowded space of online ticketing service providers.

CEO Stephen Weir told me that the reason for the new direction is simply an economical one.

More specifically, he stated that he took a good look at the balance sheet earlier this year and ultimately decided the cost of acquiring a customer for the ‘old’ MadeIT was far too high compared to the projected revenue from selling ads based on their traffic projections, and that Facebook was effectively going to kill the event social networks / invitations service providers one by one anyway. Basically, he painted a pretty dark picture for startups like Evite (Ticketmaster), Eventful, MyPunchbowl, Socializr and a slew of other similar services.

Friendfeed’s Bret Taylor talks XMPP on Gillmor Gang

November 11, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Friendfeed co-founder Bret Taylor joined the Gillmor Gang this afternoon to discuss Friendfeed’s XMPP stream of its Home and Friends List feeds. I sat with Taylor at the Friendfeed offices and Marc Canter joined intermittently by phone. Canter took the opportunity to vent about Friendfeed’s responsibility to exert leadership in the XMPP space before his line unexpectedly went dead.

The video below joins the conversation just before that point, and continues with discussion of Friendfeed’s new direction and role with the release of the realtime technologies. While Taylor acknowledged the possible threat to some companies (read Twitter) of providing access to the full firehose of data, he indicated building confidence in allowing businesses on top of the Friendfeed APIs was more valuable for Friendfeed.

Prepare your hydrogen, friends, because the age of fuel cells just might be upon us. MyFC is a fuel cell company that is showing prototypes of fuel cells that could be built into cases a la the Mophie. The cells run on small hydrogen packs and can fold over surfaces. They could even be embedded inside cellphone bodies.
