Leontré Feyona Roberts, better known as Codi was born on the 27th of September 1988 to Dennis and Evette Roberts.

She grew up in the town of Santa Cruz with her parents and younger brother Owen. She attended the Santa Cruz Preparatory School, which she started at age two and then matriculated to the Hampton School for girls where she attended forms one through to lower sixth. Since birth, Leontré attended the ‘Rocky Hill Bible Truth Church of God’. At the tender age of five she started singing and writing poems and songs and led her first choir performance in church at age seven. She has, since then, been completely sold out to music.

It was at Hampton School that Leontré developed her singing and writing abilities. She was a member of the Hampton Day Girl Choir which she directed in her fifth form year. She was a contestant in the Miss Jamaica World Western 2006 beauty pageant where she was placed 4th, and awarded best figure and skin tone, she then went on to Miss Jamaica World where she was placed in the top ten and curently holds the title of Miss Jamaica Talent. Leontré enjoys dancing, reading, writing poems, songs and short stories, swimming, kickboxing, painting and singing her heart out. One can tell from her choice of activities that she enjoys curving, manipulating, joining; whether it be words, paint, a pencil, her voice or body to make even the simplest expressions. She is very passionate as one would note from her lyrics or stanzas in various songs or poems, respectively that she outpours.

Her passion lies mostly in her country as she reflects what she sees or hears on the news or in and around her environment. The music industry is one that has always peaked her interests for the mere fact that she could make her hobby and passion her career. Her high level of confidence is one that you can either love and admire or totally detest. She is proud to admit she is her biggest critic, finding her faults before others and rarely values or acknowledge pessimistic or hateful comments or gestures from anyone.

Codi can be comfortable in any positive environment, she loves to laugh, learn and make a difference, so any setting that permits this, is one for her. In a nutshell, Leontré Roberts is a strong, level-headed, kind, passionate and realistic individual who realizes she can make a difference in her emotionally battered yet beautiful country, and will if given a chance to make a contribution to the land and people she loves through her medium of choice, music, a language that knows no boundaries or state lines.

After so many years has passed, so many messages delivered by the prophets, yet the heathen still try to deceive the people relentlessly about our Trench-Town and Reggae livity. Bob Himself spoke about these things in songs which came directly from our Trench-Town Reggae University. This is the only true and authentic Reggae school that ever was and of which I Ras Cardo must continue as teacher and one of the founding fathers. For the many who keep asking me: Listen up!

When Bob came to join us and we shared love with him he knew that he was in the best of company. People like Junior Braithwaite, Garth Dennis and myself protected him. The community was filled with love, and with the elders he took our messages forward to the world. The world with all its vampires and pirates of this music force since those times still wants to destroy our works, using our name, the name of Bob Marley, and lesser of Peter Tosh and the rest of the unsung heroes and legends of this music.

Now let me make this clear to the world as I have done over the many years that NO MAN ON THE PLANET CAN WRITE, OR CLAIM, OR PRODUCE, OR TEACH, OR PROFESS,OR CHANGE OUR TRENCH-TOWN LIVITY. NO MAN CAN DARE TO CONTEST, REFUTE,NULLIFY OR MAKE WRONG WHAT TRUTHS I HAVE SINCE THOSE TIMES.

There is no other Bob Marley or Peter Tosh for the vampires to rape and steal their works then sell it with lies after they have put them in the grave. Those who say they love Bob Marley and yet rape and desecrate his works and images which they have pirated and stolen while he was alive must know that they also rape and steal from the Trench-Town people. These are the same hypocrites we sing about in our truth music. They do nothing to help poor people.

They have done the same to Junior Braithwaite orchestrating his death and writing about him in ways which diminish the importance of his works. I was close to Junior his entire life. They knew of Junior, but they knew not Junior. The last concert Junior did we sang together. I alone have the footage. I can say the same for those of us who grew up together. These things are not for sale.

I will not go into any details about any of us because what we have endured is priceless. It is not about money. It is not about stealing and raping each other. No man on the planet can buy me or can bribe me for our crucial livity information. Don Carlos said-”It would take more than a lifetime to say how we feel today”. Our livity from those Trench-Town days is sacred. Our works are sacrosanct. I am the keeper and vanguard of the Trench-Town legacy of Reggae’s original truths.

Now, when you see the pirates and vultures writing and talking about our Trench-Town music you should be wise and ask them where they get their lies from. When you see them talking about what they call- The wailers early days-ask them early as to what?

When you see them trying to put the naming, origination, creation and foundation of Reggae some place else and on those who were never present in Trench-Town when I Ras Cardo and my brethrens created it-RUN DEM WHEY! When you see in their dictionaries and books of etymology that”no one knows where the word-Reggae came from”-DONT BELIEVE THEM, THEY ARE DECEIVING- as my brethrens has said. I trust that my readers will now know these truths. Put your concerns to rest. Don’t be afraid of the enemy and false prophets in this time.

When I say Original Wailing Wailers I mean those three youths who started the Reggae music and genre- Junior Braithwaite, Garth Dennis, and Ras Cardo. This truth is not up for debate, discussion or speculation. This is fact and truth which comes from those who have lived and done the works for this music.
When I say original I mean from the beginning, from the start, I mean bring or come together-into being-into existence-I mean it never existed before Junior, Garth and myself created it.

Original is what we know. Original does not mean early. We create and originate while others imitate, pilfer and prevaricate. The original Wailing Wailers is a name and signature which we triumvirate legends created. It is sacred, and divinely inspired. It is not to be desecrated. It is the inviolable name by which we three originals are known since those Trench-Town days. It is the name -Wailing Wailers( Not original wailing wailers) which we gave to Bob Marley when he formed his group with Peter and Bunny. He knew the name came from us and was given with love to them because in those times we shared almost everything. Money meant nothing to us because we had none.

For those who think that they can continue to rob and steal from the Trench-Town people and those who are not able to protect and defend their Reggae works-be it on the internet and elsewhere, know that I Ras Cardo with those who came from the place will take all means necessary to defend and protect the Trench-Town Ark of the Reggae covenant. The Trench-Town people must benefit from what flows from their creation.

No one can make any movie, documentary, write or publish anything purporting to show, teach or tell the history of how our Trench-Town Reggae originated unless I Ras cardo and a few others give it our blessings and full endorsement. KNOW THIS: YOU DONT HAVE TO LISTEN TO ME, BUT YOU CAN CONTINUE TO SWALLOW THE LIES. THE CHOICE IS YOURS.

Would you have a dentist performing your complex heart surgery(unless he/she is also a skilled cardiovascular surgeon)? Be wise in this time for many imposters are seeking those who have no knowledge of the truth. Bob told you-”we come from Trench-Town”-Tell the children the truth. Listen to my truth originals-Trench-Town I Lament, and Share the wealth. Read my latest book-Love in black and white. All these works are copyrighted (c) Ras Cardo Reggae/ Ras Cardo speaks.
Renowned Indonesian reggae singer Mbah Surip died at Pusdikkes Hospital in East Jakarta on Tuesday. He was 60 years old.

Surip rose to fame with the hit song “Tak Gendong” (“I Will Carry You On My Back”). The song also added at least Rp 4 billion ($400,000) to his bank account.

Mbah Surip died at 10.30 a.m on the way to Pusdikkes Hospital in East Jakarta, according to Tarzan, a close friend of Surip. He was taken to the hospital from a house belonging to Mamiek Prakoso, a comedian from Srimulat.

Metro TV reported that witnesses saw Surip’s mouth was foaming when he reached the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. He was known to be addicted to coffee and was a chain smoker. The media is still awaiting confirmation from the deceased’s family.

Surip was a street artist almost all of his life.

Mbah Surip was recognizable by his braided hair and hearty laugh. His signature greeting was “I love you full,” which he would say over and over to everyone he met.

“I love singing and I don’t mind doing it non-stop, once I sang for 60 hours with only a little sleep, but I’m happy,” Surip once said in an interview with SCTV.

Surip will be buried at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bengkel Teater Cemetery in Citayam, Depok, West Java.

‘Play I some music, is this reggae [music]?’

Early Sunday morning, as the curtains closed on the 2009 [Reggae] Sumfest, two main questions tugged at me demanding an answer:

Is reggae music dying a slow death, and if so, what is the likely cause?
Where can I buy a Red Stripe?

After performances by Jasmine Sullivan, Keri Hilson and Ne Yo, Morgan Heritage reminded the audience when they finally graced the stage with their presence, ‘the crucial word in Reggae Sumfest is… reggae.’ The fact that these words even needed to be echoed is disturbing in and of itself. Yet, their feelings fully resonated with me, after having stood through close to four hours of acts that while stellar, in the wee hours of Saturday morning, none of them were reggae. And while I do have an appreciation for R&B, pop and other genres of music, my expectation to hear ‘strictly reggae’ in the land of its birth at a festival that boasts its name as one of its major selling points is not an unreasonable one.

A very quick search for a definition of reggae [music] according to Wikipedia states:
‘Reggae is a music genre first developed in Jamaica in the late 1960s.
Reggae song lyrics deal with many subjects, including religion, love, sexuality, peace, relationships, poverty, injustice and other social and political issues.’
Following along the lines of the aforementioned, where then were the representatives of the legendaries – Burning Spear, Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff, Beresford Hammond, Gregory Issacs, Steel Pulse, Mykal Rose, Bunny Wailer, Judy Mowatt, Freddie McGregor, Maxi Priest, Tony Rebel, U-ROY and Mutabaruka are just a few of the names that spring to mind. Also what of the more ‘recent’ trailblazers – the likes of Shaggy, Sean Paul, Buju, Sizzla, I-Wayne, Anthony B. Turbulence, Ritchie Spice and Rootz Underground for example? Or support for promising newcomers like Collie Budz and Hi-Octane?
Throughout the unacceptably, unprofessionally long band changes, there was an awkward silence, virtually unheard of in any supposed live music setting. What happened to the sound system, an integral part of the whole reggae dynamic? Why were the audience left to view beverage commercials – none of which are indicative of Jamaica – repeatedly? There was nothing subliminal about this sort of advertising. In fact, it borders on insult, for patrons who paid up to $14,000 for weekend passes — to have their ears filled with jingles.
In sum, reggae music is world music, a sound and a voice that has undisputed global resonance. No other school of music can pride itself on this. Our music is rooted in our mixed heritage, while remaining predominantly African.

Instead of bombarding Sumfest with R & B acts that are already ideally suited to the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues January Festival, why aren’t we looking to invite world music artistes to our stages? Baaba Maal, Youssou N’Dour, even American India Arie are some immediate examples, as well as music and dancers from our neighbouring Cuba. Queen Ifrika’s rendition of ‘Daddy’ in Spanish was a beautiful example of our ability to expand our musical horizons.

On Dancehall Night, upon discovering that the beverages that are intrinsic to Jamaica’s culture and are clearly associated with reggae were missing, I was rendered speechless. How is it possible that one of the world’s leading beers, Red Stripe, initially blended and brewed in the birthplace of reggae was unavailable? While I acknowledge the company’s stance on refusing to sponsor the event until the entertainers ‘clean up their acts’ – which by and large they have done and ought to be acknowledged accordingly – I am not convinced that their decision ought to be a long term one without an expiration date. Has anyone stopped to consider the over-arching ramifications of ‘dis-associating’ reggae from Red Stripe, Guinness and Heineken?

Yet again, we have failed to grasp the impact of our brand Jamaica and all that entails. If I choose to drink another beer from the region, then let me choose to visit that country when they have their own musical celebrations which are entirely representative of who they are and then I can drink their beer to my heart’s content.

The bottom line is this: in Jamaica at any reggae event, to deprive patrons of the opportunity to imbibe a Red Stripe or three is unacceptable and devoid of vision. It’s tantamount to going to Oktoberfest and finding that you’ve been restricted to drinking only margaritas!

As we’re about to spar yet again with the IMF, this is an ideal opportunity for us to re-examine our resources. Immediately we’ll find that quality entertainment is abundantly available right here on our shores. Our reputation for exceptional hospitality is world renowned – which is why entertainers and patrons alike are drawn to our island. We don’t need to sell our souls to our neighbours to draw a crowd to a well organised reggae event. Rather, we need to acknowledge and embrace our awesome pool of talent that has had such an impact on the world musically – from Arabic to Indian, from rock to R & B, from country to jazz – and deliver to our audiences such a dynamic product that they are left wanting and thirst-quenched!
